Automobiles continue to evolve and become more advanced. So do their warranties. Luckily, there are still some oldies but goodies, such as the powertrain warranty and the classic bumper-to-bumper warranty. What are they exactly, and how do they differ? Our MINI of Charleston team has your quick rundown.

The Powertrain Warranty

This warranty covers parts that create and supply your vehicle's power, such as the engine, transmission and, in some cases, related pieces such as the differential. However, not all parts that bring power fall under this warranty. Some of these same parts are 'wear' parts, parts expected to wear out during general use, so they don't have coverage:

  • Fluids
  • Belts
  • Clutch
  • Battery

The Bumper-to-Bumper Warranty

Ironically, this warranty covers everything but bumpers. It covers powertrain components as well as

  • Suspension
  • Audio, air conditioning
  • Electronics

Wear and tear items may not be included, such as surface, fabrics, interior trim, and glass. Since bumper-to-bumper warranties tend to cover more, they typically span a shorter time than a powertrain warranty.
